Parks rated as 4 paw parks have few limiting restrictions on pets. These are great parks to visit with your pets. Not only can they hike with you on trails but there may be open areas to explore well.
Some of our favorite 4 paw parks are Devils Post Pile in California, Great Sand Dunes in Colorado and Grand Staircase-Escalante in Utah.

Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area is a 4-paw, dog friendly, park at the border of Wyoming and Montana. Lots of trails and camping available.
A quick trip through Banff and Jasper National Parks. Many of the park highlights are short hikes from the road. Take your dog on some longer hikes to get away from the crowds.
Petrified Forest National Park is a dog friendly park. All 7 trails and 2 wilderness areas are open for your pets to explore with you. A BARK ranger park.
