Pandemic summer road trip
A modified and reduced pandemic summer road trip with our Great Dane. Three balloon rallies but much less wandering around than usual.
Ballooning dogs are dogs that engage in hot air ballooning. Many hot air balloon pilots are dog owners and we like to take our dogs with us. Most dogs remain in the chase vehicle and don’t fly but there are some dogs that do fly with their owners. One of our Great Danes, Varel, did fly three times during her life. She would spend the hour of flight standing and looking out from the basket. Don’t worry, she was secured in the basket in multiple ways for her safety and my piece of mind.

Ballooning might not seem to be a dog friendly sport but there are plenty of dogs that enjoy it. As with any new activity, if you introduce your Great Dane to it at their pace they can learn to enjoy it.

Lake Powell Balloon Regatta
The Balloon Regatta takes place the first weekend of November in Page, Arizona. Thirty to forty balloons attend and can be seen flying over the city.
